Stratacell provides welcoming green entrance at Indooroopilly Shopping Centre
Located in sunny Queensland, Indooroopilly Shopping Centre is the largest shopping centre in the western suburbs of Brisbane. In 2014, Eureka Funds Management led a revamp of the centre – including a new outdoor plaza area.
Nathan Clausen, Associate & Partner at pdt Landscape Architects, said, “The main outdoor plaza area beside the shopping centre was going to be fully paved. In our designs, we wanted to include trees in the pavement to soften the hardscape and also provide visual cues around the entries to the centre. We were concerned about how the trees would cope, knowing that trees planted in paved areas have limited growing capacity due to soil compaction.
“Thankfully, we discovered Citygreen’s Stratacell system. We knew that it would give the trees a major advantage, enabling them to achieve optimum growth in a quicker timeframe. 540 Stratacells were placed under the pavement, providing adequate uncompacted and aerated soil for ten Kauri Pines (Agathis Robusta).
“Two years down the track, the trees have established really well – already doubling in size since their installation in 2014. Citygreen were fantastic to work with – always happy to assist, and providing great advice and information around how the installation should occur. We’re so pleased that we found an environmentally sustainable product that is assisting trees to thrive for the benefit of all who visit Indooroopilly Shopping Centre.”
