Description
Citygreen root directors are designed to protect pavements, urban infrastructure and hard landscaped areas from tree root damage. Root directors prevent root swirl and divert root growth downward and outward into the soil, thus avoiding the unsightly and hazardous root damage to urban infrastructure so commonly seen in urban areas.
Tree root damage to curbs and sidewalks is a global concern, impacting both budgets and urban landscapes. In New Jersey, a statewide tree assessment found that around 25% of street trees contributed to sidewalk damage (Cardiac, 1996). Repairing sidewalks have become a significant expense for municipalities engaged in tree care (Mcpherson and Peper, 1995). Many of these issues stem from poorly designed sidewalks that don’t account for trees and their expansive root system. (Sydnor et al., 2000: Steve Sanford, per comm.). Arborist know Root Directors are a must when planting trees to manage tree roots near urban infrastructure like sidewalks, gutters, roads, buildings, landscaping, etc.
The new Citygreen Root Director C series carries the original benefits of the RD640 root director but now also includes an integrated circular lawn edge at the top surface for a neat finish to projects.
